The dream of a better world

Yesterday was in South Africa, Mandela Day, the UN now has even declared international. The 92nd Nelson Mandela's birthday should buy every 67 minutes of his time to do something good. And so, for a day nursing homes flooded with good people and all the forgotten people of the country sucked so much tea and attention in otherwise not be in like in a year.

I let an old woman in a wheelchair in front of me on the street. This would be much faster, but I also have to admit that I am such events collective moral clean-washing does not believe to be particularly useful. This has something of the Christmas church attendance. The number 67 is also questionable. The reason is in fact that Mandela had used 67 years of his life to making the world better. The campaign was there but already last year, with the same number of years, beginning in 1942 with Mandela's first Human Rights Campaign. Would, therefore, the old man did nothing last year. It has also recently Mandela but at least the Party FIFA made better just by his presence. That he had been forced, according to allegations by his grandson of the leaves-Mafia, we do not mention here once more.

The jubilation, the Mandela triggered by waving in front of the World Cup final in the crowd, then showed the world how much the South Africans adore their liberation hero still. The picture is not wrong but not completely. People, such as the mid-forties to early March I met in Orange Farm, one of the poorest townships in Johannesburg, where is not even since the end of apartheid, running water or sewage system had been installed, that does not alleged in the Stadium. They were able to Mandela So do not wave, because the entrance to a few months' salary would have cost - if not the mid-nineties and has since been dismissed anyway would be unemployed. "Mandela has betrayed us," the man said rather bitterly. He now collects garbage to recycle it, and so to stay afloat. (The whole story I had written back then link before, but if you like, here is the way.) The reason for his pithy words, the neoliberal growth program GEAR, which was introduced in 1996 under President Mandela, for industry and the World Bank received much praise and several million jobs destroyed. With the economy has grown at that time but also the anger of many people, not only in Orange Farm.

The thing Mandela to attach itself, but it would certainly be wrong, firstly because he was imprisoned in the important negotiations on the metamorphosis of the apartheid government still and then was raised in South Africa also still the question of who and why in fact crucial for the end of Apartheid was - and what they wanted to have these powers for it. It is simply naive to believe that Mandela, in 1996, just place can draw his own thing, implement the Freedom Charter, one to one and implement modern socialism, which arises from the core document of the ANC in many places. The land and its resources should belong to all people living on it ... Well, the people live in Walmer Township in large part on a former garbage dump, but we do not want to be cynical.

Mandela now be reduced to the failure of poverty alleviation and the failed social revolution after the successful anti-racist, would this great man are simply not fair. He has done great, dedicated his life to the service of anti-racism and maintained during the transition phase of the peace. As South Africa's future is now designed, can not be Mandela's task, on the occasion of his birthday, I sat down with this issue but apart. Here's my article about published yesterday in the Weser Kurier:

hope to Mandela's birthday

The World Cup leaves behind in South Africa many debts but also a new national feeling

The loudest cheers storm broke at Soccer City stadium in Johannesburg on Sunday has front kick of the football World Cup finale from. "Madiba, Madiba" rang out in chorus as Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, in an open golf cart, turned a lap around the stadium and waved to the nearly 85 000 spectators. Which is hardly one of those who called the Mandela's clan name, knew that the man who sat for the liberation of South Africa of racism 27 years in prison, was not entirely voluntary since. The claims exercised at least his grandson Mandla Mandela, the world football body FIFA accuses great pressure on his grandfather. In advance, there had been concerns that the appearance could be too taxing on the old man's game Mandela pursued then actually prefer in front of the home television Soweto. There, surrounded by his family and several children from his home village of Qunu he celebrates his 92nd today Birthday. Mandela-Day, which even the UN for the first time for 18 July has been declared internationally, South Africa is committing almost like a holiday.

The joy and enthusiasm for Mandela to show the importance of the father of the nation of South Africa has and how much the man by his rare public appearances have become long. The love for the ex-president but also points to the dissatisfaction with the current South African government, which after all, organized the successful World Cup. The four-week football party has urged the Cape solve many problems in the background, but she could not, of course. Now turns out - just to Mandela's birthday - the question of what remains of this World Cup.

Pravin Gordhan it already had an answer. Gordhan is a South African finance minister, no man of the splendor of a Mandela but estimated as a cool and solid numbers expert. By 0.4 percent, saying the World Cup, the gross domestic product , Lift calculates Gordhan, final figures but he has not yet, because there are missing data from the provinces.

can Banal, the World Cup effects not describe anyway. South Africa has lost in the global financial crisis about a million jobs and absorb some of it through the World Cup investments again. President Jacob Zuma will not tire of mentioning this fact, thereby suppressing but conveniently forgotten that the bulk of the job was only temporary. As soon as the roads and stadiums were ready, had to go the workers. This play of light and shadow running through the championship-rated like a golden thread that allows for almost any positive message to find a point of criticism. Many of the monumental stadiums, for example - contrary to popular assumptions more pessimistic long before the World Cup of age - are threatening to "white elephant", that major investments are to no avail. Even the developed infrastructure - roads, railroads, airports and telecommunication facilities that are needed of course, far beyond the final final whistle - will the poor in the country to bring anything because they can not use them.

Nevertheless, the successful World Cup organization and implementation of South Africa has improved the global image of Africa, deposited with potential investors an impressive job and if you can a small survey conducted by the Tourism Ministry to believe the Western Cape at Cape Town airport, convinced the tourists. 66 percent of the interviewed foreign visitors there reported to want to come back with their families to the Cape. If

to expect South African media, the equivalent of four billion euros, which has cost the World Cup, the country emerged, along with the economic consequences but also more and the new nationalism as the main World Cup result on: The South Africans have moved as a society. "The World Cup gave us a focal point to come together and to be proud of," says the sociologist Udesh Pillay from the Research for Social Sciences in Durban, a renowned critic of the first World Cup overestimated expectations the new consciousness. And in fact, anyone who has seen how were in bars, fan parks and the stadium people of all colors with tears of joy in the arms, as Siphiwe Tshabalala of South Africa in their opening match against Mexico in front shot, know that the World Cup in South Africa not only can be evaluated in the last penny.

The South Africans have shown the world a friendly face of unity and even after leaving their own Bafana Bafana still support other teams. Ghana was highlighted as the last African representatives often, but were actually felt at least as many fans in the colors England and Brazil made up. Were all the more disturbing

the news the morning after the final. Only in the final night, the rumors of new xenophobia had confirmed it was in Cape Town townships attacks on African foreigners. Police chief Bheki Cele looked behind common criminals who wanted to use in the business of foreigners, and also President Zuma played down the issue first and only called on to isolate the "criminal elements". Although the government on the one hand with the rapid deployment of heavy police and army forces, unrest in the bud smothered to keep the rhetoric that it is the recent riots by only self-fulfilling rumors constitutes, continuously.

That may even be true in individual cases, but the problems are deeper. It is the extremely high unemployment and the lack of long-promised social services such as hospitals, water, electricity and sewerage connections or a better education in the townships, which make people always on the road. In some cases, the anger then hits - reportedly controlled by corrupt local politicians - down on immigrants. When it comes to social researchers Pillay, the Government is necessary - despite the empty coffers - using the powers of World Cup to implement long-promised improvements in living conditions in poor neighborhoods in the act. "We now have this positive atmosphere in the country, we now have the pride and the national consciousness in order to tackle these challenges," says Pillay.

The South Africans have seen during the World Cup, what achievements your government may be able, if it wants to. The Mandela-Day, it will by the way the UN is to call people worldwide to their environment with small acts make a little bit better. Today the Cape should therefore be not only an unofficial holiday but also a day of hope.

What Is The Weather Like In Myrtle Beach In April

reading material to dream away

Although it is been a while, but I'm here previously denied even an article that it was not online, unfortunately. Because it was a travel theme, however, and the goal right now in the South African winter - turns out there is extremely mild - unfolds its full charm, I push it now for a moment:

Left Ear Is Buringing

Paul is dead, the devil wins

The first of an octopus moved Football World Cup on the African continent is over. The course can be superficially described as predictable. The Fifa rake in billions, South Africa is in debt to our ears and white with the great stadiums from now on what to do anymore and the large African unity erupted during the night after the final in first attacks on refugees in Cape Town townships. From their respective control and hate media sufficiently aware could be hacking but no European tourists from machete gangs, the national Buren front preferred to invest their edge to prefer Klipdrift brandy than in the bomb and so it happened that an survey of the Western Cape Tourism Ministry, 66 percent of international visitors indicated that they want to come back with their families. Sure, the odd tourist travels without his old digital camera home and a few journalists were given the opportunity to write moving stories about how they were resolved to take your car. Anyone from a country with an annual wants to shoot twelve million visitors a rope is, but obviously in bad faith.

Sporty there were a couple obligatory surprises, with the resignation of the pomade teams from France and Italy was very pleasurable, the final battle of the Bafana Bafana heartbreaking, the play style of the German team refreshing and deserved the victory of Spain. But what all this is one more hit after that latte from eleven meters in the 121st Minute of the game against Ghana, Uruguay. As a whole continent marketed with a World Cup to the image of eternal misery and tragedy to get away, and then separates the last remaining African side in the tournament like this. is to all this, then Diego Forlan, the husband of a direction-changing remote control for Jabulani, the ball has, chosen even the devil himself the player of the tournament. Two inches deep and it could have been Asamoah Gyan.

Pulpo Paul denies abwiegelnd with all eight arms, of course, any involvement in this matter. Whether it's true, I do not know. After my last hand and armgreiflichen fight with an octopus, which could decide the animal on the coast of Port Elizabeth for himself and limited my dinner on mussels with rice, I trust the octopus but no more. However, I have the tentacle-oracle be high appreciated. Since I hired during the World Cup in the ARD was, and matches with German participation in Port Elizabeth promised more work, of course I was - quite the patriot - until the semifinals ardent fan of Germany, and then the Spaniards proudest on earth. With Paul's help, it was influencing brain then also just come as it should, and I was allowed a few minutes with the presidential dance Wulff, who was at the losers final award ceremony times just jetted down. I was quite worthy of him as well-wishers for the German team, however, because the DFB-Elf, after all, had already won the second time ... but I want to

vorgauckeln nothing, because when I learned that Paul left the service soon anyway eliminated, I forgot all eh Politika and it was the Carnivore in me and then again by the grateful squid friend. In the end I picked Paul ...

stove and fireplace prices prices

The pricing of stoves and fireplaces, is especially on the Internet, a thematic evergreen. In addition to the keywords "fireplace," tiled "," fireplace "and" chimneys ", is vorlammen searched for the necessary prices. Of course, this is a legitimate matter, as the price of a tiled stove or a fireplace einwesentlicher price point!

you get what you pay for!

Too often however, failed to question the stove or fireplace price! There are two major factors that complicate the comparison of prices of stoves and fireplaces. The problem is due to the fact that stoves and fireplaces are usually individually designed and built. DIY set fires out of the box "have mostly individually to the actual housing situation to be adjusted. Another important factor in the price of stoves and fireplaces are the materials used. Especially in optical plaster surfaces thereby compromise quality range widely.

cleaning furnace cleaning furnace is not the same and is in most cases by no means a stove!

Again and again I read in forums of kits and what materials are used in it. And I am always shocked that there is often built into tiled stoves and fireplaces to keep the price as low as possible. Recently, I've even read that a manufacturer designated by AAC his material as an ideal chimney obstruction material, which borders on closer inspection, in my view to the common hazard, as aerated concrete as the sheath material of a heating system, in addition to the negative thermal dynamic properties, especially the change of temperature resistance for the dominant thermal loads and also has the extreme convection installed inside the shell has a constant convection result in abrasion material, which is as fine ever given in the living room. Aerated concrete is cheap and easy to work, but perfect as obstruction material for fireplaces and stoves suitable! You must therefore always what is under the plastered surfaces of your tile stove or fireplace - the verwendetet materials may indeed often be cheaper to buy and lower the price, but are often completely inappropriate and sometimes even bad for your health.

fireclay grog is not the same.

But even going with the known materials for the stove and fireplace, the Quality-price gap often requires far apart. Prime example is the so-called refractory for the interior of ornamental and often used memory and sheath material in plaster tile stoves and fireplaces. The reason for this is that fireclay is actually a generic term that summarizes the materials, which have the properties to a high temperature change resistance. However, among them, in fact, subsumed by materials of blast furnace linings to high sulfur-containing low-grade refractory combustion chamber. Hence the term refractory is often a bit misleading when comparing prices. But here again there are materials such as Luxit of Spirit of Fire That was developed specifically for combustion of wood and does not allow misleading because Luxit is not a generic term.

prices fireplace and chimney question prices carefully!

compare exactly what you get for your money! Because believe me, you are free of stove or fireplace, the quality of materials in purchasing 8,000 euros, 2,000 euros to get - because your natural warning bells should be ringing very loudly! And if you opt for a "cheap bargain, can not expect high quality tiled stove or fireplace, and can only hope that no materials are included, the harm their health.

Free Full Lorna Morgan Vids

The thing called apartheid

Yesterday afternoon I once again make contact with the South African health care. Do not worry I'm fine. But two girlies knocked on my door, to raise money for a friend who was suffering from abdominal cancer. For ten edge I could buy a pen and thus contribute my part to the OP. The fund-raising model seemed sufficiently tailored to my profession, so I was there. A blue pen is now my own.

But while I would not let it go and asked again - completely ignorant of the German miming - to, whether there was here no national health insurance and health care for all. All of that was certainly not fair, because with the South African health care I know me, at least at second hand from all good, my girlfriend is a doctor at a government hospital. For the sick is in this country a strict financial apartheid: Who can afford to, drawing on the prestigious private hospitals, who has not the money ends up in the often shabby-looking, miserable administrative mismanagement battered and materially and financially in particular here, Eastern Cape equipped public hospitals, where the result mainly young doctors in a futile struggle to ensure access by poor housing, poor nutrition and non-existent patient care driven avalanche.

straight for white South Africans, these bodies of pure horror. It would have free health care, said one girl, so too, but these hospitals were "nasty, dirty, smelly, dripping blood everywhere and people coughing up". Only the poorest white people sit down as far as to enter a public hospital. Then beg for an operation but rather go somewhere else. And to put it bluntly, all these prejudices are not pure disgust, I would also be in any of these hospitals in the current state.

What has made me thoughtful, was what the girls said it. They had "this thing called apartheid" in South Africa had, until 1993 - no 1994's was over, is throwing a girlfriend, but the other is sure that it was in 1993. Well one years more or less oppression, what of it. The two were born just about the time estimated. "I do not want to sound racist, but have adopted as the Africans, the country, everything went down the drain," she drives at least in Vocabulary during the political correctness gone. My tentative argument that the supply situation would have been for blacks before 1994 are not necessarily better, the two of them not really understand and I prefer to again tell the difference between private and state hospitals. The two girls, maybe 17, 18 years old really no big racists, I take from them - especially not in the internal comparison of this country. Nevertheless, I do not know if they would talk to my roommate so nice, although that is actually much more charming than I am.
"I like your accent," I giggled a coolie-seller meet at the end yet. "I do not like your attitude," I thought to myself, but also to pronounce it, I was not sure enough whether they really even understand what she says because in anticipation of my white understanding of a nonsense. The next time you look in the mailbox, I found even a piece of paper with telephone numbers and the desire to know me better. Since I know that vrek oulik in Afrikaans something like "sweet" is. I find it sweet. Maybe I was supposed to predict. There would be so much to tell.

For example, that South Africa in the whole reconciliation and Vereinigungssoße that for years as a thick oil film across the country, is in the wrong hugs suffocated while under the cover of the old resentment continues to simmer. True understanding is different than the young people today do not even know when apartheid ended, let alone what it was. And without this knowledge there can be no proper awareness on current issues. The health system is of course only a focal point, but an important one. Of course, the supply could be much better here. If more people had access to education, work and healthy eating and living beyond reasonable even in homes would, in the evening rather than half in smoke and stench of paraffin stoves provisional to suffocate and freeze to death at night anyway by leaky tin roofs wet ceiling rained halfway. If to the rich-poor gap would be a bit less open. And if the vast sums flowing annually into private health care, would be used in a solidarity-based health insurance with the meager resources of the lower classes. Then, yes, and probably only then, the South African health system would work much better and no one would have to sell pens to fund cancer operations. But what I would do it tomorrow ... my notes
